Star Wars is a cult classic. While lots of people are just becoming fans with the new movie installments; I have loved Star Wars since I was a child. The love of my life happens to also be a huge Star Wars fan. He has totes filled will vintage Star Wars toys from when he was a kid. I have in the past given him a box subscription where he acquired even more Star Wars “tchothchkies”. During one of our conversations about all his “tchotchkies”, he brought up having a Star Wars bedroom as a kid. He displayed all his toys, still in the boxes. With his birthday approaching last April, I got the bright idea to redo our bedroom in a Star Wars theme, as a surprise.
If you ever google searched Star Wars bedroom, you would soon discover that the options are endless. You can find just about anything you’re looking for, even things you didn’t know existed.
Modern Map Art makes custom Star Maps. They are beautifully printed on high quality paper. I chose one to celebrate the birth of Charlie, who everyone calls “Z”. I thought it would be fun to incorporate him into the theme.
I took our old wooden dresser and painted it black. I spray painted the hardware chrome. It reminded me of Darth Vader’s suit.
My obsession with perusing online yard sale sites finally paid off when I spotted a couple of “Z” shaped wine racks for sale. These wine racks happen to retail for over $100.00 each. I paid $60.00 for both. While neither of us are really wine drinkers, I thought we could use the racks to hold other things; comic books and magazines roll up and fit perfect, and so do soda bottles. The wine wracks also had some shelving areas to place, you guessed it, “tchothchkies”!
I found these very saucy pin up girls wearing Star Wars helmets on Etsy. I knew he would love them, and I had to get them. The are from Loft 817 which specializes in Dictionary art prints, vintage book page art. They are beautiful prints. I originally wanted them for the bathroom, but haven’t had a chance to hang them yet. Right now they are being displayed on the dresser.
Charlie’s favorite character from Star Wars is one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy, Boba Fett. I knew I had to find something epic to add to the room and came across this duvet cover by Society 6. Society 6 has a collection of select bedding you just can’t find any where else. Its very unique. I also painted our bed in a charcoal chalk paint. The Star Wars X-wing and Millennium Falcon canvases I found at Target. I will also be adding some lightsaber night lights.
The room is still not complete. I have a few more things on my wish list and some cool shelving ideas for “tchothchkies”! Charlie loved the room.
